History/Overview
Tucked in just below the mid-range of the Land Rover lineup is the Discovery, a mid-size SUV that brings seven-seat flexibility to the British brand’s upscale clientele. That said, this is not really an ideal vehicle for a large family, but rather one whose third row can accommodate people for short trips, or short people for longer trips.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
The Land Rover Discovery is unchanged for 2022.
Available Trims
Land Rover offers the Disco – as it’s known casually – in S, R-Dynamic S, R-Dynamic HSE, and Metropolitan trim levels. Power options are a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder, or a 3.0L turbo six-cylinder with mild hybrid assist. An eight-speed transmission and 4WD are standard across the range.
Standard Features
The base S trim level comes with a dual-pane sunroof, LED taillights, headlight washers, power-folding mirrors with driver’s-side auto dimming, adaptive dynamics suspension, power tailgate, and passive keyless entry.
Inside, you get dual-zone A/C, an auto-dimming mirror, 11.4-inch touchscreen, and a heated steering wheel.
Discovery’s basic safety kit comprises rain-sensing wipers, forward collision mitigation, blind spot monitor, 360-degree cameras, clear exit monitor, driver condition monitoring, lane keep assist, front and rear parking sensors, rear cross-traffic monitoring, traffic sign recognition, and wade sensing.
R-Dynamic trim brings a black roof, and fog lights; the HSE package adds automatic high beams, and Windsor leather seating.
Metropolitan models gain four-zone A/C with air purification, a front console cooler, wireless phone charging, and an interactive driver display.
Key Options
Land Rover’s hot climate package adds four-zone A/C with air purification, a front console cooler, and solar-attenuating windshield. A cold climate pack adds a heated windshield and washer jets, and headlight washers.
An off-road package brings all-terrain progress control with configurable terrain response, and a two-speed transfer case. You can also get a towing package that includes all-terrain progress control.
Power-folding third-row seats are available with or without heating.
Fuel Economy
Land Rover’s fuel consumption estimates for the Disco are 12.2/10.6 L/100 km (city/highway) for four-cylinder models, and 12.8/9.8 L/100 km with the six-cylinder engine.
Competition
You might cross-shop the Discovery as an alternative to an Infiniti QX60, Acura MDX, BMW X5, Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GLE, Cadillac XT6, or Lincoln Aviator, only with more off-road ability.
